A Short, Straight-to-the-Point Guide for RDM Clients
If Real Digital Marketing directed you here, this page gives you the short version of what you need to do to set up your website’s legal policies using Termly. If you want a full explanation of what each policy means, how Google Consent Mode works, and why these laws exist, read the full guide here:
Business Owner’s Guide to 2025 Website Legal Requirements
This page covers only the steps you must complete to help ensure your website’s privacy policies and consent tools are set up and displayed properly for common modern tracking and consent requirements. This content is provided for informational purposes only and does not constitute legal advice.
Start Here — Choose Your Client Type
There are two different setup processes, depending on your website plan:
1. DFY Annual Website Management Clients (Done-For-You Service)
RDM handles technical setup — you will review and approve.
Do NOT create a Termly account. RDM installs Termly for you and you will receive an invitation to review your policies.
What You Must Do
- Review and verify your business information
- Update any missing or incorrect details
- Add industry-specific rules or disclaimers (as needed)
- Approve your policies after reviewing them (and consulting counsel if desired)
⚠️ VERY IMPORTANT
Your policies are legal documents published on your website. It is your responsibility to ensure all business details, disclosures, and policy statements are accurate and appropriate for your business, industry, and the jurisdictions where you operate or market.
You must double-check:
- Business legal name
- Business address
- Contact email
- Service coverage areas / jurisdictions
- Refund & return rules
- Terms & Conditions details
- Industry-specific disclosures (medical, financial, real estate, legal, health-related, etc.)
If your information is incorrect, incomplete, or outdated, your policies may be inaccurate or may not meet applicable requirements.
RDM does not review, interpret, or confirm the legal accuracy or legal sufficiency of your policies or consent settings, and does not provide legal advice. Clients are strongly encouraged to have their attorney or legal advisor review all policy content to ensure it meets applicable laws and industry regulations.
What RDM Handles For You
- Installing Termly
- Setting up policy pages and embedding them on your website
- Configuring the Cookie/Consent Banner based on information provided by you and the tool’s available settings
- Enabling Google Consent Mode V2 (where applicable)
- Embedding all policy pages
- Ensuring tracking tools (GA4, GTM) are technically configured to respect consent signals where feasible
Billing is handled directly through RDM — you do not need a Termly subscription.
2. DIY Website Management Clients (You Manage Hosting & Updates Yourself)
You create your own Termly account and provide us the embed codes.
Step 1 — Create Your Termly Account
Generate a Privacy Policy with Termly
Step 2 — Answer Termly’s Required Questions (Common Technical Features)
Choose:
- Does your site use cookies? → Yes
- Do you use tracking technologies? → Yes
- Do you use Google Analytics? → Yes (if enabled on your site)
- Do you embed third-party content? → Yes (if you use embeds such as maps, videos, social feeds, etc.)
- Do you collect personal information via forms? → Yes (if you use contact/lead forms)
These selections help Termly generate policies that reflect common website features. You are responsible for confirming your actual tools and data practices and answering Termly’s questions accurately.
Step 3 — Enable the Cookie / Consent Banner
This can help manage:
- Cookie consent collection
- How tracking tags behave based on consent
- Google Consent Mode V2 signals (where supported)
- User permissions
Step 4 — Run the Cookie Scanner
⚠️ Termly’s scanner detects all cookies and tracking technologies on your site—not just the common ones.
It may identify:
- Analytics cookies
- Advertising or retargeting cookies
- Social media embed cookies
- Plugin-generated cookies
- Theme/functionality cookies
- Any third-party scripts loading in the background
- New cookies that appear after plugin updates
Why This Matters
Many tools on your RDM site—Divi, WP Rocket, AIOSEO, Imagify, TrustIndex, Smash Balloon, GA4, GTM—can:
- Load cookies
- Store user identifiers
- Send data to third-party platforms
- Trigger disclosures under certain privacy laws (depending on your use and configuration)
- Add analytics or functionality scripts
Your Cookie Policy should reflect the actual behavior of your website.
How This Affects Termly’s Prompts
When Termly asks about:
- Selling/sharing personal data
- Analytics cookies
- Advertising cookies
- Data transfers
- Third-party content
You should answer according to what your website tools and integrations do, not just what you personally intend to track.
If you are unsure, consult legal counsel.
Step 5 — Send RDM Your Embed Codes
You must provide:
- Privacy Policy code
- Cookie Policy code
- Cookie Banner code
- Terms & Conditions (optional but recommended)
- Refund/Return Policy (if applicable)
We will install the codes you provide on your website.
